Session 01 : Getting Started
Getting started is easy! After you install the software you will want to set up how the tablet and pen will work for you. In no time we will have you drawing and sketching before working on your first project. We will even show you how to save your masterpieces!
Session 02 : Pen Practice
Drawing and painting with a pen is so much easier than using a mouse; it just takes a little bit of practice. In this session you will learn how to move the cursor around the screen and how to draw and paint comfortably.
Session 03 : A Tour of the Essentials Workspace
Welcome to Corel Painter Essentials! In this session Jane will show you around the program and explain what everything does.
Session 04 : Using Brushes
Make a new canvas and have a great time exploring all of the different brushes Corel Painter Essentials offers you for bringing your imagination into the world of digitally created art! Learn how to add and blend colors, how to erase, and how to start over again. Make colored paper and see how to save a favorite brush.
Session 05 : The Color Windows
Painter Essentials offers you several ways of working with colors. This session walks you through the Color Window, the Mixer Window and the Color Wheel so you can mix your own colors or choose one from an open file or a photograph.
Session 06 : Keyboard Shortcuts
Keyboard shortcuts can make the painting process faster and easier, so you can focus on your creativity. In this session you will learn the most common keyboard shortcuts most painters like to use. Both PC and Mac shortcuts are shown.
Session 07 : Making a Sketch Using Tracing Paper
Painter Essentials lets you draw and paint from scratch, or by starting with a tracing from a scanned image or photograph. Included in the session is picture that you will use as Tracing Paper to make a drawing.
Session 08 : How to Save Your Work
In this session you will set up a new folder to put your drawings in so you don't lose them! You can save more than one version of your artwork so you can always go back if you need to.
Session 09 : Making a Chalk Painting of a Still Life
In this session you will learn how to turn a photograph into a chalk painting using your own colors plus colors from the original photo. Learn how to choose a paper color, paint under a sketch and add blended shading and highlights for a three-dimensional look.
Session 10 : Auto Oil Painting
Auto Painting in Painter Essentials offers incredible options for both hand finishing or quick creative effects when you are in a hurry. This session explores image adjustments, borders, paper textures, the auto paint functionality and use of the Restore options so you can have complete control.
Session 11 : Exploring Texture
See how to use texture while you are making a picture. Learn when and how to add over all texture to finished pieces for an artistic fine art finish.
Session 12 : Photo Painting - A Dog Portrait / Part 1 / Preparation
Turning a favorite photograph into a fine art painting is one of the most fun features of Painter Essentials. Sometimes photos need a little tweaking in order to look as nice as a painting. This session walks you through the steps when you are preparing photos to become paintings. At the end of this session you will have an artistic image ready to become a beautiful painting.
Session 13 : A Dog Portrait / Part 2 / Under Painting
Add some of your own colors and then blend them by hand to take on the natural characteristics of the dog's fur. Learn how to mix accent colors that work nicely into your paintings without overpowering the subject and how to use brush size to develop a focal point. Experiment with using copies of your picture in order to feel confident that mistakes can be easily corrected.
Session 14 : A Dog Portrait / Part 3 / Details
Paintings grow in three steps, under-painting, focal point development and details and decorations. In this session you will learn brush tips for making nose textures plus how to paint eyes with sparkle and expression. The painting will be complete with extra accents in the fur and you will learn how to add them delicately by using layers.
Session 15 : The Ballerina Watercolor Painting / Part 1 / Preparation
This session begins with studying a photograph, applying artistic enhancements and extending the canvas so you can delicately blend the edges into white paper. First steps like this one really make a difference in how artistic your final result will be.
Session 16 : The Ballerina Watercolor Painting / Part 2 / Under Painting
Use Impressionist brushes to extend the borders, add additional color accents and give a good base to the painting. Blend paint and photograph together to create a soft watercolor background using brush techniques for water, sand and surf. Practice moving your hand in different ways to "shape paint" and leave the photograph behind as you develop your own style of painting.
Session 17 : The Ballerina Watercolor Painting / Part 3 / Adding Fantasy
One of the most important things you can do to make a photograph really become a painting is to add your own fantasy. Be courageous as you paint on your own, blending and shaping fabric to create a lovely sense of a summer breeze.
Session 18 : The Ballerina Watercolor Painting / Part 4 / Developing a Focal Point
Once you have painted everything on the photograph it's time to evaluate your work, fix small mistakes and use smaller brushes, different colors and more attention to edges to bring focus into the important areas of the painting. This session is where your painting really starts taking important shape.
Session 19 : The Ballerina Watercolor Painting / Part 5 / Decorations
Paint each facial feature and add definition and accents to hair and clothing for a finished, polished look. Then go in close and add sparkle to special waves, satin thread to the dress - whatever you want! When people look closely at your painting they will see all of the details in your very own masterpiece.
