Lesson 1 : Application Overview
Take a tour of
the Adobe Illustrator CS interface. Find your way to essential resources
with the Welcome screen and learn how to manipulate and arrange Illustrator’s
plethora of floating palettes.
Lesson 2 : Creating New Files
Learn the basics of starting from scratch in Illustrator.
Applying important concepts like document size and measurement systems, you’ll
also learn about the RGB and CMYK color models and when to use them.
Lesson 3 : Selections
The function you’ll do most often in Illustrator is selecting art, and
there are plenty of ways to accomplish that task. You’ll learn about
the difference between the Selection tool and the Direct Selection tool, as
well the Magic Wand and Lasso tools.
Lesson 4 : Appearances
The most important palette in Illustrator is the Appearance palette, and this
lesson will demonstrate why by showing you how to add multiple fills and
strokes to objects, groups, or even layers themselves.
Lesson 5 : Layers
Learn how to take control of your art through the layers palette. Organize
objects, groups, sublayers and layers, and learn how to quickly move selected
objects from one layer to another, and why the Layers and Appearance palettes
go hand in hand.
Lesson 6 : Drawing
Learn to draw simple vector shapes by using Illustrator’s
interactive Rectangle, Ellipse, Polygon and Star tools. This lesson will also
cover drawing shapes by eye, and precisely using numerical values.
Lesson 7 : Fills and Strokes
Learn about the two attributes that every vector object has. This lesson gives
insight as to how Illustrator applies these attributes and demonstrates the
many different options available to specifying strokes.
Lesson 8 : Colors
Add color to your drawings by learning how to choose colors and how to save
them in your document as swatches. Learn the difference between Process,
Global Process, and Spot colors, and when you should use them.
Lesson 9 : Transformations
Transformations include moving, scaling, rotating, shearing, and mirroring
objects. This lesson describes the different tools you can use and cover
the ever-precise transform palette for making perfect transformations.

10 : Compound Paths & Masks
Learn about the process of combining multiple paths to form a single one, allowing
you to effectively punch holes through vector objects using compound paths.
Additionally, use masks to hide portions of an object without actually deleting
anything.
Lesson 11 : Brushes
Learn to create and apply the four kinds of brushes that Illustrator supports:
The Calligraphic Brush, the Art Brush, the Scatter Brush and the all-powerful
Pattern Brush. Use a pressure-sensitive tablet to achieve hand-drawn effects.
Lesson 12 : Symbols
Define art once, and then reuse that art repeatedly through a document to save
valuable time and file size space. Then learn to use Symbols to easily make
edits and changes across an entire document.
Lesson 13 : Live Effects
Live Effects are filters and special effects that you can
be edited and adjusted even after they’ve been applied. Learn how to identify
these effects in the Appearance palette and how to apply the ever-popular drop
shadow effect.
Lesson 14 : Basic 3D
There’s a real 3D rendering engine inside of Illustrator
CS and this lesson covers the basics of using the powerful feature. Learn how
applying different fills or stroke can change the appearance of your 3D object.
Lesson 15 : Liquify Tools
The liquify tools allow you to intuitively apply a variety of distortion effects
to vector art and even placed raster images as well. Learn how to harness
the underlying mesh technology so get just the right look.
Lesson 16 : Basic Text
Illustrator CS sports a brand-new text engine and this lesson
covers the basics including setting both point type and area type. Learn to
choose just the right font from Illustrator’s WYSIWYG font menu.
Lesson 17 : Transparency
Multiply, Difference, Screen, Overlay – sounds like Photoshop, doesn’t
it? Learn about Illustrator’s transparency features and the ability to
assign opacity values to vector objects and even placed images.
Lesson 18 : Saving Files
When it comes to saving files, there are always plenty of options. Learn about
the different settings for saving native Illustrator files and EPS files,
so that you can place you art into other applications.
Lesson 19 : Creating PDF Files
These days, everyone wants you to send them PDF files. Learn
about Illustrator’s
new PDF options and how to properly compress images, embed fonts, and password
protect your PDF files.
Lesson 20 : Printing
The new print engine in Illustrator makes it easier to get
your file printed quickly and correctly direct from Illustrator. Learn to use
the fit to page option and to use the interactive print preview.
