QuickTime 7.1.6 crashes <Program.exe> Director files on Windows Vista computers
Updated 10/3/07

The following information is related to Microsoft Windows Vista and Apple QuickTime Player.

QuickTime 7.1.6 for Windows Vista does not work with Macromedia Director Projector files containing QuickTime movies played Direct to Stage. This includes all Software Cinema CS and CS2 program Interfaces <Program.exe> on CD or DVD discs. All new CS3 programs utilize Flash and Flash FLV video and have been immune to this problem.

QuickTime 7.2 fixes <Program.exe> Director files on Windows Vista computers

The latest QuickTime version for Windows is 7.2 (10/3/07). This update should resolve the problem. Completely uninstall earlier versions of QuickTime, including QuickTime Assets and restart your computer. Then download the latest QuickTime and run the installer. Restart your computer and the programs should work fine.

Work-around to view the videos directly in the QuickTime Player:

1. Go to your 'Start Menu' and select 'My Computer'.
2. Locate your CD or DVD drive that has the 'SC Training' disc in it. Right-click the disc and select 'Open'.
3. There is a folder called either <video> or <movies> on the main level of the disc. Double-click the appropriate folder on your disc and you will see the QuickTime video files. Double-click any file and it should open in the QuickTime Player.
4. The project session files are located in the <session_files> folder. There are sub-folders for each session that contain the image or files the trainer used in the recordings.

Troubleshooting tips for QuickTime on Windows-based computers
Posted 4/30/05

The following tips are related to Microsoft Windows and PC hardware/software configurations*.

Early versions of QuickTime 7 for Windows do not work with Macromedia Director Projector files. You must download and install the latest QuickTime version later than 7.0.3 for Windows. Completely uninstall earlier versions of QuickTime, including QuickTime Assets. Then download the latest QuickTime and run the installer.

• Make certain you have installed the most recent drivers for your sound and video cards. Even if you have a "brand new" computer, it is not guaranteed to have the most recent software installed. Contact the manufacturer of your sound and video cards for additional information.

• Make certain you have installed a recent version of DirectX and DirectSound.

*Errors are usually related to software conflicts, unusable files, or incompatibilities. They can also be related to specific hardware combinations, and sometimes the way in which the hardware is configured. Keep in mind that an error message does not necessarily point to a particular cause or solution. Since there can be many different causes for a particular symptom, some suggestions may not work, and you may need to discover a solution on your own.

Please contact Microsoft Corporation or your computer vendor for help configuring Microsoft Windows.
