Google CEO Exits Board at Apple Citing Competition

Google CEO Eric Schmidt has resigned from Apple's Board of Directors, a role that created some problems for him as Google becomes increasingly more competitive with Apple - especially with their Android v. Apple's wildly popular iPhone.

Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO said "Unfortunately, as Google enters more of Apple's core businesses, with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric's effectiveness as an Apple Board member will be significantly diminished, since he will have to excuse himself from even larger portions of our meetings due to potential conflicts of interest. Therefore, we have mutually decided that now is the right time for Eric to resign his position on Apple's Board."

Schmidt has been under increasing pressure to make a move as it became clear Google was going to go toe-to-toe with Apple.
